DID YOU KNOW that in fulfilling the Torah the Messiah did not make it obsolete, for He came to fulfill only the prophecies concerning His First Coming?
What are some examples of the prophecies that He fulfilled?
“All these things Y’hoshua spoke to the multitude in parables; and without a parable He did not speak to them, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: ‘I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things kept secret from the foundation of the world.’ ” [Matthew 13:34-35]
“And He came into Nazareth where He was brought up. And according to His custom, He went in on the day of the Sabbaths, into the synagogue, and (He) stood up to read. And a scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to Him. And unrolling the scroll, He found the place where (it) was written: ‘(The) Spirit of YHVH (is) upon Me. Because of this He anointed Me to announce the good news to (the) poor; He has sent Me to heal the (ones) broken (in) heart, to announce freedom to captives and to (the) blind to see again, to send out (the ones) being in freedom, to announce the acceptable year of YHVH.’ (Isaiah 61:1-2a) And rolling up the scroll, returning (it) to the attendant, He sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, ‘Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your ears.’ ” [Luke 4:16-21]
You will note that He stopped in the middle of verse 2, for He came to fulfill the first part, but the day of vengeance will not occur until His Second Coming.
“And He said to them, ‘These (are) the Words which I spoke to you yet being with you, that all the things must be fulfilled having been written in the Law (the Torah) of Moses, and the Prophets, and the Psalms, concerning Me.’ Then He opened up their mind to understand the Scriptures.” [Luke 24:44]
“While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name; I guarded those whom You gave to Me, and not one of them was lost, except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.” [John 17:12]
“But what things Elohim before proclaimed through the mouth of all His prophets, (that) His Moshiach should suffer, He fulfilled in this manner.” [Acts 3:18]
“And when they finished all the things having been written concerning Him, taking (Him) down from the tree, they laid (Him) in a tomb.” [Acts 13:29]
In light of these few examples, please reread Matthew 5:17-18, “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law (the Torah) or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot (smallest letter) or one tittle (little crown on top of certain letters) will by no means pass from the Torah till all is fulfilled.”
Romans 10:4, "For the Messiah is the goal of the Torah for righteousness to everyone that believes."
“And by this we know that we have known Him, if we keep His commands. The (one) saying, ‘I have known Him,’ and not keeping His commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that one. But whoever keeps His Word, truly in this one the love of Elohim has been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him. The (one) claiming to rest in Him ought so to walk himself as that (One) walked.” [I John 2:3-6]
Since the Messiah obeyed the Torah, even unto death, should we not be willing to do the same?
