DID YOU KNOW that some of us were taught falsely about worshipping in spirit and truth?
"But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father also does seek such to worship Him. Elohim is Spirit, and those who worship Him need to worship in spirit and truth." [John 4:23-24]
These verses say that we are to worship the Father in spirit and in truth. How do we accomplish this?
The following three verses give us explanation: "For we know that the Torah is spiritual . . ." [Romans 7:14a] "And Your Torah is truth." [Psalm 119:142b] "Set them apart in Your truth -- Your word is truth." [John 17:17]
YHVH is Spirit. The words in the Torah are His Words. The words are of Him and represent Him. They teach us to know Him. The Word says He cannot lie. The Torah cannot lie because the words are from YHVH, the One who cannot lie. We are to follow the instructions in His Word. To be obedient to Him, by following what He tells us to do, is the highest form of worship. When we study, learn and do His Word, we are following the commands in the Sh'mah: " 'And you shall love YHVH Elohekka with all your heart, and with all your being, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first command. And the second, like it, is this, 'You shall love your neighbour as yourself.' There is no other command greater than these." [Mark 12:30-31]
How does Y'hoshua describe the Torah? "For if you believed Moses, you would have believed Me, since he wrote about Me. But if you do not believe his writings, how shall you believe My words?" [John 5:46-47] When we study the Torah (and the Prophets), we are taught by the Spirit of YHVH, and we begin to learn about the Messiah in everything it teaches. We will learn to know both the Father and the Son!
"It has been written in the prophets, 'And they shall all be taught by YHVH.' Everyone, then, who has heard from the Father, and learned, comes to Me." [John 6:45] "And I give them everlasting life, and they shall by no means ever perish, and no one shall snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all. And no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand. I and My Father are one." [John 10:28-30]
"Y'hoshua answered them and said, 'My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me.' " [John 7:16] Since Y'hoshua lived perfectly the teachings of the Torah and the Prophets, shouldn't we study diligently so that we can imitate the Messiah and walk just as He walked? [Ref. 1 John 2:6]
"For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the (matters) of the flesh, but those (who live) according to the Spirit, the (matters) of the Spirit. For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace. Because the mind of the flesh is hostile towards YHVH, for it does not obey the Torah (of Truth) of Elohim, neither indeed is it able, and those who are in the flesh are unable to please YHVH." [Romans 8:5-8]
What you believe you have heard from Elohim, or what someone tells you is of the Spirit, must be tested against the Torah of Truth. If it is true, it will hold up. If it is false, you will be unable to confirm it in the Word. Scripture will interpret Scripture, so truth will provide two or three Scriptures (witnesses) to confirm it.
