DID YOU KNOW that, when someone states that they believe their family is under a curse, they could be correct?
Consider: “YHVH is slow to anger, and of great mercy, bearing away iniquity and transgression; but He by no means will clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the sons, on the third and on the fourth generation.” Numbers 14:18
On the surface, it sounds as if YHVH is punishing the descendants for the actions of their forebears, doesn’t it? But look at the situation as a continuing process. The father, who should be the spiritual head of his household, probably has no idea of the importance of his position. When he is indifferent to the instructions for having life, the Torah of YHVH, he will do only that which is right in his own eyes. Therefore, he will not be able to teach his children about real life, for he himself has no idea what it is.
These are the instructions he failed to follow: “Sh’mah, Israel, YHVH Elohanu, YHVH echad. And you shall love YHVH Elohekka with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all your might (Ref. Mark 12:29). And these Words which I am commanding you today shall be on your heart. And you shall teach them to your sons, and shall speak of them as you sit in your house, and as you walk in the way, and as you are lying down, and as you are rising up.” Deuteronomy 6:4-7
The Messiah said that the Sh’mah is the most important commandment of all: Hear with understanding and obedience, Israel, YHVH Elohanu (our El) is one YHVH. And you shall love YHVH Elohekka (your El) with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all your might. If you don’t love Him with all your heart, how can you teach your children something you yourself do not understand?
Do you study the books of Moses? “He (YHVH) made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the sons of Israel.” King David’s words in Psalm 103:7
Again, for those of you who still do not believe these words have any importance to you, the Messiah said, “ . . . if you do not believe his (Moses’) writings, how will you believe My Words?” John 5:47
One of the father’s main duties is to prepare his sons to become the spiritual leaders of their future households. Instead, if he is not setting a righteous example, by his obedience to the Torah in both words and deeds, he has failed his sons in the most important area possible. By his example of disobedience, they will learn lawlessness, the pathway that leads straight into the Lake of Fire. Not only is there eternal punishment, there are curses listed in Deuteronomy 28:15-68 that will come on them and overtake them during their lifetime, “ . . . for you did not heed the voice of YHVH Elohekka (your El), to keep His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you. And they shall be on you for a sign and for a wonder, and on your seed forever, because you did not serve YHVH Elohekka with joyfulness and with gladness of heart for the obedience of all things . . .” Deuteronomy 28:45-47
And what about this man’s daughters? How will they learn what to look for in a husband? And how will they be able to put their trust in YHVH, the true Father? If their earthly father is untrustworthy, he has become a stumbling block to them; and, in the words of the Messiah, “It is profitable for him if a millstone of an ass is put around his neck, and he be thrown into the sea, than that he should offend (be a stumbling block to) one of these little ones.” Luke 17:2
One of the most effective ways that the father teaches both sons and daughters is by cherishing and honoring their mother. According to the words of Paul, in Ephesians 5:25, “Husbands, love your wives, even as the Messiah also loved the Assembly (of called out ones) and gave Himself up on its behalf . . .” Again, in verse 28, “So, husbands ought to love their wives as their (own) bodies, (he loving his wife loves himself) . . .”
In other words, he is to put his wife and children’s needs above his own interests. That attitude is one of the definitions of servant (Greek #1401) in The Strong’s Concordance of the Bible: devoted to another to the disregard of one’s own interests.
In the words of the Messiah, “ . . . whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your servant; even as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:26-28
We are supposed to imitate the Messiah Y’hoshua; and to imitate Him is to live a life of obedience to the Word of YHVH -- that is the key to breaking the curse! And what does YHVH say about the descendants of those who are obedient? “ . . . YHVH Elohekka, He is Elohim, the faithful El, keeping the covenant and mercy to those who love Him, and to those who keep His commands, to a thousand generations.” Deuteronomy 7:9
