DID YOU KNOW that ministers who use the promises of YHVH for fund-raising events may be filling their coffers, but are their actions pleasing to YHVH?
During a recent TV fund-raising event, the following were two of the verses used: “Honor YHVH with your substance, and with the firstfruits of all your increase, and your barns shall be filled (with) plenty, and your presses shall burst (with) new wine.” [Proverbs 3:9-10] This was clearly encouraging the listeners to give in order to receive. The Word tells us to honor YHVH by being obedient to His commands and He will take care of our needs.
Learning obedience is a process. You don’t learn the Way of YHVH overnight. Perhaps that is why the above verses are followed by these: “My son, do not reject the chastening of YHVH, and do not loathe His correction, for whom YHVH loves He corrects, even as a father (corrects) the son (with whom) he is pleased.” [Proverbs 3:11-12]
Instruction and correction are the same Hebrew word, Strong’s #4148, muwcar (moo-sawr’); from #3256; properly chastisement; figuratively reproof, warning or instruction; also restraint. The primitive root, #3256, yacar (yawsar’); to chastise, literally (with blows) or figuratively (with words); hence to instruct. In other words, if you care deeply for your child, you will instruct him.
Proverbs 4:13, “Take fast hold of instruction (#4148), do not let her go; keep her, for she is your life.” Now, are you beginning to see why the Torah is called, “Instructions for having life”?
The instructions in the Torah are the rules of the household which belongs to YHVH. And, just as the rules of a responsible earthly father are given to train his children, we have been given rules to teach us the ways of our heavenly Father. Both are given for the children’s good. Remember, it is the child who is given no rules or guidelines that grows up feeling neglected and unloved, for it is security to him when he is made aware of the boundaries to his freedom.
Since TV ministries place so much emphasis on money, what are we actually instructed to do with our resources? “But you shall remember YHVH Elohekka (your El), for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, in order to establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is today. And it shall be, if you by any means forget YHVH Elohekka, and follow other mighty ones, and serve them and bow yourself to them, I have warned you this day that you shall certainly perish. Like the nations which YHVH is destroying before you, so you are to perish, because you did not obey the voice of YHVH Elohekka.” [Deuteronomy 8:18-20]
Do these ministries establish the covenant of YHVH, or do they tell you that it is obsolete and you are not required to keep it? “. . .To make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but by every Word that comes from the mouth of YHVH. . . .Thus you shall know in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so YHVH Elohekka disciplines you, therefore you shall guard the commands of YHVH Elohekka, to walk in His ways and to fear Him.”[Deuteronomy 8:3b, 5-6]
“The Torah of the wise is a fountain of life, turning one away from the snares of death.” [Proverbs 13:14]
A physical manifestation of this truth can be found in Exodus 9, where Moses warned Pharaoh that every man and every beast found in the field would surely die. “Those among the servants of Pharaoh who feared the Word of YHVH made their servants and livestock flee to the houses (for safety). But those who did not set their heart on the Word of YHVH left their servants and livestock in the field.” [Exodus 9:20-21]
Just like Pharaoh’s servants, it is our choice to either obey or reject the Word of YHVH.
