DID YOU KNOW that, if you have not built your doctrine upon the foundation of the Torah and the Prophets, you will be unable to understand the Messianic Writings (New Testament)?
A good example is the story of the woman with the issue of blood told in Matthew, Mark and Luke, as follows:
“And behold, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came near behind (Him, and) touched the fringe of His robe. For she said within herself, ‘If only I shall touch His robe, I will be cured.’ But turning and seeing her, Y’hoshua said, ‘Be comforted, daughter; your faith (trust) has healed you.’ And the woman was healed from that hour.”
“And a certain woman being with a flow of blood twelve years, and who had suffered many things by many physicians, and had spent all things that she had, and having gained nothing, but rather coming to worse, hearing about Y’hoshua, coming in the crowd behind (Him), she touched His garment, For she said, ‘If I may but touch His garments, I will be cured.’ And instantly the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she knew in (her) body that she was healed of the plague. And knowing instantly within Himself that power had gone forth out of Him, turning to the crowd, Y’hoshua said, ‘Who touched My garments?’ And His disciples said to Him, ‘You see the crowd pressing on You, and do You say, “Who touched Me?’ ” And He looked around to see the (one) who had done this. And the woman, being afraid and trembling, knowing what had happened on her, she came and fell down before Him and told Him all the truth. And He said to her, Daughter, your faith (trust0 has healed you. Go in peace and be whole from your plague.’”
“And a woman being in a flow of blood from twelve years, who had spent her whole living on physicians, (and) could not be cured by anyone, coming up behind she touched the fringe of His garment. And instantly the flow of her blood stopped. And Y’hoshua said, ‘Who (was) touching Me?’ And all denying, Peter and those with Him said, ‘Master, the crowds press on You and jostle. And do You say, “Who (was) touching Me?” But Y’hoshua said, ‘Someone touched Me, for I knew power (was) going from Me.’ And seeing that she was not hidden, the woman came trembling and kneeled down before Him and told Him before all the people for what reason she touched Him, and how she was instantly cured. And He said, to her, ‘Daughter, be comforted. Your faith (trust) has healed you. Go in shalom.’”
But to you who fear My name, the Sun (the Brilliance) of Righteousness shall rise up, and healing will be on His wings. And you shall go out and frisk like calves of the stall.”
Wings = an edge or extremity; a wing, (of a garment or bed-clothing).
And what was attached to the wings of His garment?
“And YHVH spoke to Moses, saying, ‘Speak to the sons of Israel and you shall say to them that they shall make themselves fringes (zitzith) on the corners (wings) of their garments, for their generations. And they shall give a thread of blue (tekhelet) with the fringe of each corner. And it shall be to you for a fringe, that you may look on Me and remember all the commandments of YHVH, and do them; and that you do not go about after your own heart and your own eyes after which you fornicate; that you may remember and do all My commandments, and be holy to Elohekka. I (am) YHVH Elohekka who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be Elohekka. I (am) YHVH Elohekka.’ ”
She knew the Scriptures, so she recognized that Y’hoshua was the Promised Messiah, the One whose righteousness would be as bright as the sun, the Light of the world, because He had come in the Light of the Father and was obedient to His every Word. This woman knew that she could put her trust in Him!
• “How precious is Your mercy, Elohim! And the sons of men take refuge in the shadow of
Your wings. They shall be satisfied from the abundance of Your house; and You give them drink from the river of your pleasures. For with You is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. Oh, continue Your mercy in the ones knowing You, and Your righteousness to the upright of heart.” Psalm 36:7-10
• “Do not go astray, my beloved brothers, every good giving and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of light, with whom is no change or shadow of turning. “ James 1:16-17
• “And the city had no need of the sun, nor of the moon, that they might shine in it, for the glory of Elohim illuminated it, even its lamp is the Lamb.” Revelation 21:23
• “For the commandment is a lamp, and the Torah a light . . .” Proverbs 6:23
• “And the Word became flesh and tabernacled among us . . .” John 1:14a
• “Then Y’hoshua spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” John 8:12
Because she knew the Torah and the Prophets, she recognized Y’hoshua; and she knew that if she were able to touch His zitzith, she would be healed. “Beloved, in regard to all things, I pray for you to prosper and to be in health, as your soul prospers.” 3 John 1:2
Because she knew the Scriptures and believed them – she trusted and therefore acted upon that trust – and was healed!
Conversely, if we do not know and trust in the Torah and the Prophets – the Word – then we will not recognize the true Messiah, which will make it very easy for us to be deceived. The Messiah Y’hoshua is that Word made flesh. If someone teaches you to disregard the least thing in the written Word, then that person will be teaching you false doctrine and a false messiah.
Keep in mind that Satan marvelously transformed himself into an angel of light. So, is it such a great thing, then, if also his ministers transform themselves into ministers of righteousness?
Ref. 2 Corinthians 11:14-15
Our protection, then, comes in knowing and obeying the written Word, for the light of the Word will reveal all that is false. Because the woman with the issue of blood trusted the Torah and the Prophets, she knew the Father and He led her to the true Messiah Y’hoshua, the One with healing in his wings.
“No one is able to come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him, and I will raise him up in the last day. It is written in the Prophets, ‘They shall’ all ‘be taught of YHVH.’ So then everyone who hears and learns from the Father comes to Me . . . ” John 6:44-45 (Ref. Isaiah 54:13)
This woman believed the Word of YHVH, and the fruit of her trust in that Word was her obedience.
Questions each one of us needs to ask himself:
• Do I diligently study the Word?
• Do I believe the words I read?
• Do I obey what I learn?
• Do I truly know the Father?
• Does He know me?
• In His eyes, what kind of fruit am I producing?
The Messiah said, “For whoever does the will of YHVH is My brother and My sister and mother.” Mark 3:35
To do what the Torah says, you must first understand and believe it.
“Gods law is spiritual; it is a transcript of the divine nature, and extends its authority to the acts of the soul of man.” Webster’s 1828 Dictionary
To know the Father, you must understand and believe His Word.
The woman in this New Testament story knew the Father. Do you know Him?
