DAVID AND THE ARK OF ELOHIM

DID YOU KNOW THAT YHVH expects us to do things His way, not our way?

A good example of this is the ark in 1 Chronicles 13:3-12, as follows:

3.) " 'And we shall bring around to us the ark of our Elohim, for we did not seek Him in the days of Saul.' 4.) And all the assembly said to do so, for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people. 5.) And David gathered all Israel, from Shihor of Egypt even to the entering in of Hamath, to bring in the ark of Elohim from Kirjath-jearim. 6.) And David and all Israel went up to Baalah, to Kirjath-jearim of Judah, to bring up from there the ark of the Elohim YHVH, who dwells among the cherubim, where the Name was called on.

7.) And they made the ark of Elohim to ride on a new cart from the house of Abinadab. And Uzza and Ahio (were) leading the cart. 8.) And David and all Israel (were) playing before Elohim with all (their) might, and with songs, and with lyres, and with harps, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.

9.) And when they came to the threshing-floor of Chidon, then Uzza put out his hand to take hold of the ark, for the oxen stumbled. 10.) And the anger of YHVH burned against Uzza, and He struck him, because he had put out his hand on the ark: and he died there before Elohim. 11.) And it burned to David, for YHVH had broken a breach against Uzza; and he called that place, Perez-uzza (the Breaking of Uzza) to this day.

12.) And David feared Elohim on that day, saying, 'How shall I bring the ark of Elohim to me?' "

Were David's intentions bad? No, he was trying to do a good thing, but he did not do it according to the instructions given by YHVH.

How should the ark have been carried? According to Exodus 25:10a, 12-15, ". . .they shall make an ark of acacia wood. . .12.) And you shall cast four rings of gold for it, and shall put it on its four feet; two rings on the one side, and two rings on the second side. 13.) And you shall make poles of acacia wood, and you shall overlay them with gold. 14.) And you shall put the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark, to carry the ark by them. 15.) The poles shall be in the rings of the ark; they shall not depart from it."

The ark was to have been carried by the poles, not put on a cart. And Uzza, being a Levite, was aware of that. But, in a split-second of reaction -- a moment of emotion, he reached out to protect the ark, and YHVH struck him dead. Were Uzza's intentions bad? No, his actions were taken to protect the ark; but if they been carrying the ark on its poles, as YHVH instructed, he would have lived and not died.

Following in obedience the instructions of YHVH brings the abundant life. Disobedience brings death.
